Originally from Ottawa, Katie Worobeck came to France in 2017 to do an internship at Jean-François Ganevat. He ended up settling in the south of the Jura, buying a house in Orbagna and leasing a small chardonnay plot in “Les Varrons”.
Alongside his ongoing work for Ganevat, he made his oenological debut in 2019 as Maison Maenad, with a négoçiant cuvée de Beaujolais gamay and a fascinating estate wine from a field blend of very old co-planted hybrids.
Katie Woobeck moved to France in 2017 to work at Domaine Ganevat, where she continues to work today. Previously, he worked for a winery in Prince Edward Country and harvested at Bouchard Finlayson in South Africa in 2015.
Woobeck currently cultivates a tiny vineyard area, just 0.92ha. This includes a small Gamay plot, a small Hybrid plot and just over half a hectare at Les Varrons.
But he is finalizing the purchase of a 3ha plot with the five Jura varieties, located near the Kenjiro Kagami vineyards. In early May, he planned to bottle some chardonnay this year, leaving some barrels to age longer. A barrel will see sous-voile aging. As always working to be able to offer these exciting new projects at Unicorn.
