Alonso Wineries

Bodegas Alonso ( www.bodegasalonso.com) is established for the acquisition of the wine-growing assets of Pedro Romero SA A property with a total surface area of nearly one hectare in the center of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, which consists of several ideal warehouses for the aging of manzanilla and other DO Jerez wines Xères Sherry. This property has served these uses since the mid-19th century, carrying out, in recent decades, the aging of the AURORA manzanilla solera (by Pedro Romero) and various oxidative aging wine soleras. Together with the acquisition of this property, Bodegas ALONSO acquires around 250,000 liters of oxidatively aged wines with their respective butts (barrels), along with 20,000 liters of a long-aged white wine in butts that had been abandoned for oenological care, also property of Pedro Romero.

In this way, Bodegas ALONSO begins its journey in the Marco de Jerez with three "encastes" of oxidative aging wines of the highest quality and age in their categories. These "encastes" are made up of the ancient soleras of Pedro Romero, Gaspar Florido and Fernando Méndez. The wines from these soleras are world-renowned and unique for their age and maximum quality.

On the other hand, Bodegas ALONSO has more than 13 hectares of vineyards of the best albariza (Jerez Superior) in reference payments such as Balbaina and Miraflores for the production of its musts that will become its manzanilla solera over time. In parallel, Bodegas ALONSO is acquiring manzanilla from storekeepers to form another solera that will finish its aging in its cellars and allow it to carry out the marketing of these wines in the first years of activity in the Framework. Thus, the winery intends to maintain two lines of manzanilla solera: one that will come over time and in which Bodegas ALONSO will have control and traceability from the vineyard; and another that will come made up of manzanilla from the soleras of Sanluqueño wineries and warehousemen.

As for the oxidative aging wines, we must say that they are very old wines, which Pedro Romero SA kept as its greatest jewels.

For us at Unicorn, Bodegas Alonso is friendship, we were among the first to learn about the project, which gives us a real perspective of what they are capable of, for this common project, where a few years ago we took care of selecting the barrels personally , we have shared our passion for wines raised naturally.
