Andreas Tscheppe

Andreas Tscheppe is making beautiful examples of natural wine in Styria, in the same spirit as Franz Strohmeier, Sepp Muster or his brother Ewald in Werlitsch. These vineyard sites are superbly terraced and teeming with life - butterflies, dragonflies, and beetles are just a few of the creatures you'll encounter while walking these vines, and they're all represented on their wine labels. Andreas works only with white grapes, some of which are fermented with the skins to produce orange wines. All the vinification implies a minimum time of 18 months in the barrel so that the wines integrate well with the oxygen and enter by themselves before being bottled.

Their wines:

Tscheppe Sauvignon Blanc Green Dragonfly (Grüne Libelle) Sudsteiermark, Austria 13.5% of alcohol. This translates as “green dragonfly” and is fermented in used 500-litre barrels with native yeasts. It spends 2 years in the barrel and then the same time in the bottle before its release. Incredibly textured, pure and mineral with dense dried fruit, apples and a bit of spice. There is a lovely spicy mineral heart to this wine, as well as a touch of nice reduction. Such a lovely wine, round but precise. amazing things.

Tscheppe Sauvignon Blanc Green Dragonfly (Grüne Libelle) Sudsteiermark, Austria Aromatic. Rich texture with bold pear and spicy fruits, with good weight and charming mineral character. Accurate and pure.

Tscheppe Sauvignon Blanc Blue Dragonfly Sudsteiermark, Austria Very rich and aromatic with sweet and lively notes of pear and spices, as well as some mineral details. Rich and expressive.

Tscheppe Chardonnay Südsteiermark, Austria Very mineral with a matchstick nose. Intense and alive with some spice. The palate with a pear and citrus texture is quite beautiful and intense.

Tscheppe Yellow Muskateller Butterfly Südsteiermark, Austria So floral and beautiful. Live, pure and grape with a pleasant texture and some richer notes, as well as pure fresh fruit.

Tscheppe Gold Muskateller Butterfly Südsteiermark, Austria Contact with white skin. Lovely fresh, pure grape and lemon notes with a lively and slightly spicy personality. Dense fruit here.

Tscheppe Earthbarrel Stag Beetle Südsteiermark, Austria Sauvignon and Chardonnay fermented for 6 weeks in skins. Then, in the winter months, the barrel is buried underground so that the wine benefits from the strong energy level of the soil. It is structured with a pleasant open fruit of pear and peach, along with a bit of spice. Nice depth here: serious wine.
