Domaine de Bellevue

Jérôme Bretaudeau is one of the most talented winemakers dedicated to the fascinating terroir of Muscadet, the westernmost appellation in the Loire Valley.

Located along the Atlantic coast where the Loire flows into the ocean, Muscadet enjoys a cold maritime climate that combines with granitic soils composed of igneous rocks, silica pebbles, white and rose quartz, to create low-alcohol wines. , high acidity and pronounced minerality. complexity.

In stark contrast to most of Muscadet, which is dominated by overgrown industrial production cooperatives, Domaine de BelleVue comprises 12 hectares of organically certified vineyards in active transition to full biodynamic viticulture.

Jérôme is also innovative and experimental, making wines not only from the Melon de Bourgogne characteristic of the appellation, but also from other cuvées of Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.

At the heart of the Domaine wines are three old vine Muscadet cuvées: Gabro, Granit and Gaïa.

The differences between the three are largely a function of soil types and elevation; All three are tank fermented on native yeasts at low temperatures. Gabbro and Granit are aged in tank on their lees with weekly batonage.

The Gaïa is unique because it is aged in ovoid (egg-shaped) amphorae.
